Lakshadweep declared 100% Organic

 The Union Territory of Lakshadweep has been declared as Organic Agricultural Area by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer’s welfare. The UT is second after Sikkim to achieve the status of 100% organic region. It is first in the Union Territories of India to achieve the status.

The entire 32 sq km area of the UT has been certified as organic under the Union Government’s Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (organic farming improvement programme). Lakshadweep has been separated from the main stream India geographically. There has been no shipment of chemicals and fertilizers to the island group for the last 15 years. The UT administration has been practicing farming only using inputs like compost, poultry manure, green leaf manure. The UT has not made any expenditure for procurement of chemicals.


What is Organic Farming?

It is technique that involves cultivation of plants and rearing animals in natural ways. It avoids use of synthetic substances to prevent soil fertility and ecological balances. By this, organic farming aims to minimize wastages and pollution. It involves biological methods.

Schemes of Central Government to promote Organic Farming

  • The Paramparaghat Krishi Vikas Yojana was launched to promote organic farming with participatory guarantee system certification. It involves training, cluster formation, marketing and certification.
  • National Mission on Oil Seeds and Oil Palm was launched to increase irrigation coverage of oilseeds from 26% to 36%. It aims to increase seed replacement ratio.
  • National Food Security Mission was launched to increase rice, wheat and pulses production to ensure food security in the country on sustainable basis. Under the mission, financial assistance was provided to bio-fertilizers.

Other States and Organic Farming

Uttarakhand was the first state to launch Organic Farming Policy in 2000. Sikkim was the first state to become 100% organic.

Benefits: The main benefits of organic farming are lower input costs, environmental friendly, improve soil structure, premium price, etc.

Human Rights Day: December 10

 Every year Human Rights Day is celebrated on December 10. It is also called the International Human Rights Day. The day was chosen to honour the United Nations General Assembly adoption of Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The United Nations Prize in the field of Human Rights is awarded on the Human Rights Day. This year, the Human Rights Day was celebrated under the following theme

Universal Declaration of Human Rights

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted on December 10, 1948. The Allies of World War II formally known as the United Nations adopted four freedoms namely freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom from want and freedom from fear. They created the Charter of United Nations based on the faith in fundamental human rights. Therefore, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is important and so is the Human Rights Day. This is because it forms one of the bases of the United Nations.

United Nations Human Rights Council

It is a United Nations body that protects and promotes human rights. It investigates allegations of breaches of human rights in the United Nations. The council has 47 seats. The term of each seat is three years. No member of the council can occupy a seat for more than two consecutive terms.

Why is Human Rights Day celebrated?

It is celebrated all over the world to achieve real rights for human beings. It aims to improve socio-cultural and physical well being of the people throughout the world. The day is celebrated for the following reasons
• To create awareness about human rights among people in the world
• The improve the efforts of the United Nations General Assembly
• To interact and discuss crucial issues of human rights.
• To motivate minorities, women, poor and disabled person to participate in the event.

New Zealand declares climate emergency

 New Zealand has declared a “climate emergency” and promised to make its public sector carbon neutral by 2025. New Zealand now joins 32 other countries that have declared a climate emergency. They include Japan, Canada, France and the United Kingdom.

Prime Minister of  New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern told legislators that the climate emergency declaration was “an acknowledgement of the next generation – an acknowledgement of the burden that they will carry if we do not get this right and do not take action now”.

SBI PO Recruitment 2020: Interested and eligible candidates can apply for the SBI PO recruitment 2020 online at sbi.co.in. The last date for printing your application is December 19, 2020.


SBI PO Recruitment 2020: The online registration process for the recruitment of SBI Probationary Officer (PO) will close on Friday, December 4, 2020, on its official website.

Interested and eligible candidates can apply for the SBI PO recruitment 2020 online at sbi.co.in. The last date for printing your application is December 19, 2020.

The bank will hold the online preliminary examination on December 31, 2020, and January 2, 4, and 5, 2021. The results for which is scheduled to be declared in 3rd week of January 2021. Candidates who will qualify the prelims will be eligible to appear for the mains on January 29, 2021. The results for which is scheduled to be declared in 3rd/ 4th week of Februray 2021.

SBI is conducting the recruitment drive to fill 2000 vacancies of Probationary Officers, out of which, 810 vacancies are for general, 540 for OBC, 300 for SC, 200 for EWS, and 150 for ST category.

“Graduation in any discipline from a recognised University or any equivalent qualification recognised as such by the Central Government. Those who are in the Final Year/ Semester of their Graduation may also apply provisionally subject to the condition that, if called for interview, they will have to produce proof of having passed the graduation examination on or before 31.12.2020. Candidates having Integrated Dual Degree (IDD) certificate should ensure that the date of passing the IDD is on or before 31.12.2020. Candidates possessing qualification of Chartered Accountant may also apply,” reads the official notice.

Candidates belonging to the General/ EWS/ OBC category are required to pay an application fee of Rs 750, while the SC/ ST/PWD candidates are exempted from the payment of registration fee.
